Seán Duggan
Seán Duggan is a photographer, author and educator with a traditional, fine art photographic background combined with over a decade of extensive real world experience in the field of digital imaging. He is a co-author of Real World Digital Photography (2nd Edition, Peachpit Press, 2004) and Photoshop CS Artistry, Mastering the Digital Image (New Riders, 2004), and is an Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert. His Photoshop tutorial column can be seen regularly in Layers magazine and he has also written articles on Photoshop and digital imaging for Digital Photo Pro, Outdoor Photographer, PCPhoto and Photoshop User magazines.
In an imaging career spanning twenty years he has been a studio and location photographer, worked as a custom black & white darkroom printer, and supervised the digital imaging department of a professional photo lab. Equally at home with both low-tech and hi-tech approaches, his visual tool kit includes everything from primitive pinhole cameras and wet darkroom alternative processes, to 35mm and medium-format SLRs, digital cameras, and advanced Photoshop techniques. His photographs have been exhibited at the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California and at galleries and exhibitions throughout California.
Seán is an instructor in the photography departments of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he teaches online classes on digital photography and Photoshop for photographers. Seán also teaches annual workshops other venues in the U.S and abroad. In 2004 and 2005 he co-taught digital photography workshops in the Andes of Peru with the internationally renowned photographer Phil Borges in support of the organization Bridges to Understanding.
