Documentary Filmmaking

Master the fundamentals with DMA's immersive documentary filmmaking class

This class covers the basics of modern digital documentary filmmaking, from philosophy through production and editing. It's a fast-paced mix of screenings, demonstrations, and hands-on work with some of the best current digital filmmaking tools, such as Sony HDV cameras and audio equipment, portable lighting kits, professional tripods and Final Cut Studio 2 for post-production and editing. You’ll learn about storytelling methods, advanced shooting techniques, microphones and audio recording, post-production strategies and documentary workflow. We’ll also cover technical issues such as shooting formats (DV vs. High Definition), as well as research and scripting.
