Someday you may see 15-year-old Griffin Wooldridge’s work and not even realize it…and that will be perfectly okay with him.

The aspiring graphic designer from Walnut Creek, Calif., wants to be the creative engine behind those gorgeous print ads you see everywhere…and he’s already steps closer to reaching his career goal, thanks to his summer experience at Digital Media Academy’s UC Berkeley camp.

“I felt accomplished after creating two professional-looking ads for big companies,” says Griffin.

But that’s hardly the whole story on this young man. He’s already been big into tech through creating design tutorials, which he shares over his own YouTube channel. And he’s already gotten more than 200,000 views!

THE DMA INTERVIEW: Griffin Wooldridge

What did you actually make in your Graphic Design course?
I created an advertisement for Beats by Dre headphones and another ad for Coca Cola with a custom logo concept.

Those sound like cool class assignments. How’d they go over?
My Coca Cola ad was voted best in the class by the students!

Congrats! How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final projects?
I felt accomplished after creating two professional-looking ads for big companies.

That’s a great feeling. Any other sensations?
It gave me a sense of what it would be like do graphic design as a career.

What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
Learning different Photoshop tools, getting a better feel for Illustrator, and meeting new people throughout the camp.

You say you met new people. Did you forge any lasting bonds with other students at DMA camp this summer?
Yes. I made a couple of friends who sat next to me during the class.

Cool. Did you consult on each other’s project work?
Yes. Part of the class was giving feedback on each other’s work, which gave us a chance to interact.

Do you think you’ll use what you learned at DMA now that you’re back at your regular school?
Yes. I have actually already used some skills, such as the pen tool, in my digital design class in high school.

Would you like to come back to a DMA tech camp next summer?
I would love to go back to the class. It was a great experience.

Sounds like you’re really sold on the program?
Marcus Duvoisin (the teacher) talked to me about serving as a Teaching Assistant next year and I’m highly interested in doing that.

Would you suggest DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
Yes, I would definitely recommend DMA to my friends.

How happy were your folks about your session at DMA?
My parents were extremely pleased with the DMA experience and what I created during it.

So, any chance we’ll see you again next year?
They’ve already signed me up for camp next summer!

DMA’s cool tech camps give kids (ages 6-12) and teens (12-17) a time and a place to sample some of the most fascinating and advanced tech pursuits. A place where you can explore robotics, engage in app development, or (like Griffin) concentrate on graphic design. If it’s tech, we’ve got it, from 3D printing to music production.

Just as importantly, DMA tech camps give kids a place to test their futures, and let them try on different vocations and see how well they “fit” that particular student.

And this happens right on time – before the huge costs of college are faced…and before young people make the key education and career decisions that shape the rest of their lives. At DMA, student interests are fully explored, and future career paths are carefully charted.
