He may be young, but his musical roots run deep…and include the Fab Four. Ben Cagnina is a 14-year-old from Gahanna, Ohio. This past June, he attended Digital Media Academy tech camps at the University of Michigan.

He remixed The Beatles this summer. Now Ben’s back home, but still using what he learned at DMA.

This year, Ben attended DMA’s music production courses. According to his teacher, Trevor Bumgarner, Ben “shows great spirit and is a great classmate.”

Here’s what Ben had to say about his DMA experience this summer:

What did you actually create at DMA tech camp?
A remix of “A Day In The Life” by The Beatles. I also took part in the production of an original trap track with two other campers.

How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final project?
I felt accomplished and proud of my work.

What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
The most fun things about the DMA tech camp were definitely the friends I made, the class and instructor, and the camp counselors.

Did you make friends at DMA camp this summer?
I would say that I made about 13 friends (so just about everyone, including the counselors).

I fel accomplished and proud of my work.
– DMA Music Production student Ben Cagnina

Do you use what you learned at DMA now that you’re back home?
I believe that I will use apply the same team building skills and creative thinking I used at the DMA tech camp to regular school.

Would you like to come back to a DMA tech camp next summer?
Yes, I would like to attend a DMA tech camp next summer.

Would you recommend DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
If I felt that my friends shared interest in subjects that the DMA camp taught, then I would suggest the DMA tech camp to them.

And how did your parents feel about your session at DMA?
Yes, my parents were pleased with my DMA experience.

This was Ben’s second camp season with DMA, and we hope to see him again next summer!

Sure, most people like music, but do you live and breathe it? Like Ben, is it a central part of your experience? Do you dream about working in the music industry?

You’re not alone. People are drawn to the music industry by its glamour and creativity. This coming summer at Digital Media Academy summer tech camps, kids and teens will be exploring their creativity through music production camps like the one Ben participated in at the University of Michigan.

Come see if you’ve really got the music in you. Our music production tech camps will take your best musical ideas and give them voice.

Special thanks to DMA’s Rachelle Harding for coordinating this interview!
