Each DMA filmmaking student is unique and drawn to filmmaking in his or her own way. For Kate Foreman, you can tell that she really likes the group spirit she found in her DMA summer experience.

On an end-of-camp survey, Kate gave DMA the highest score possible for “overall camp experience.”

A 15-year-old from Moorestown, N.J., Kate took one of our beginning filmmaking courses in late June. The project was great and the people she met – talented and driven young people like herself – were unforgettable.

Here’s what Kate had to say about her time at DMA last summer:

Kate, what did you actually make at DMA tech camp?
I created a short film about an office worker who is able to manipulate his body through Microsoft Word. Throughout the video, he pushes buttons and is able to do things – such as copy his whole body, backspace an arm, etc.

That sounds pretty cool. How did you feel when you had completed your final project?
I felt so proud that my group and I were able to create such a cool film with awesome equipment during the time at camp. It was so cool to see all of our hard work pay off into something awesome!

And what were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
Being able to talk with people who are interested in the same things as I am (like film, and getting to explore the University of Pennsylvania campus on location scouts).

Did you meet any other students you really liked?
I made three friends at DMA tech camp this summer. I’m so glad that I met them and was able to work with them.

It was so cool to see all of our hard work pay off into something awesome!

Do you think you’ll use what you learned at DMA back at your regular school?
I’ll definitely use what I learned at camp back at school because I know how to properly edit videos – which will come in handy for video projects in class.

Outstanding! Would you like to return to DMA for another summer session?
I would love to come back to DMA tech camp this summer since I had so much fun last year!

Fantastic! Would you recommend DMA tech camps to your best friends?
I would definitely suggest DMA tech camps to my best friends and their parents because it was such a great opportunity that I want them to be able to experience, too.

How did your folks feel about your summer at DMA?
My parents were very pleased with my DMA experience and enjoyed getting to watch what I created.

The perfect film camp experience depends not only on great teaching, cool projects and plenty of the right equipment. It also depends on your fellow students. Are they cool? Are they serious about their creative goals, like you are?

Kate found the right group at Digital Media Academy – young people with creative vision and a drive to make big things happen.

This summer, great things will be taking place at our University of Pennsylvania tech camps.

Come find the right group for you!

Special thanks to DMA’s Rachelle Harding for coordinating this interview!
