DMA Success Story: The Game-Building Castrucci Brothers

We met the Castrucci brothers – Liam (age 12) and Finn (10) – last year at DMA’s 3D game design camp. The brothers took instructor Paul Langton’s Adventures in 3D Game Design with Minecraft tech camp.

The Castrucci brothers had a great time at DMA’s Game Design Camp. “I wish DMA came to my school,” says Finn, “So I could do this camp all year long.”

The Castrucci boys come from Hampden, Maine. And they were both so eager to tell us about their game-building experiences that we decided to interview them both!

What did you actually create at DMA tech camp?
A Minecraft map imitating the Maze Runner.

How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final project?
Liam: I felt as if I accomplished something big.
Finn: Proud.
Both: We wished we had another week!

What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
Liam: Minecraft!
Finn: Learning things about Minecraft that we didn’t know before.
Liam: Learning about maps (“Herobrine’s mansion”).
Finn: Playing soccer outside during the breaks.
Liam: The counselors were very helpful and knowledgable.
Finn: We were busy all the time and were never bored.

Did you make friends at DMA camp this summer?
Both: Yes, we did make friends.
Liam: I met about 12 since I met kids outside playing soccer, as well as during the classroom sessions.
Finn: I’d like to see some of the same kids next year.

It was fantastic to hear the enthusiasm in their voices each day after camp. It was their favorite camp of all time!

Do you use what you learned at DMA now that you’re back home?
Liam: Yes. I already do projects with Minecraft at school and the redstone helped.
Finn: We also use what we learned when we are playing with our friends.

Would you like to come back to a DMA camp next summer?
Both: Emphatic yes! We are already signed up!

Would you recommend DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
Both: Yes, we already have sent a link to the website to one of our good friends.
